Acclaimed pianist Anthony Hewitt founded the festival in 2004 and it has grown in size and stature from four concerts to over twenty events annually, including orchestral and choral concerts. We are a small town but big time festival: Steven Isserlis, Tasmin Little, Chloe Hanslip, Natalie Clein, Alina Ibragimova, Emma Johnson and Martin Roscoe are just some of the world class artists who have performed for us.
The main Festival takes place over one week in June in Ulverston complemented by a winter series of recitals and weekend master classes throughout the year. Every year we try to do something new, building on successful components of previous festivals. 2012 again surpassed previous festivals in both quality and scope with a hugely successful inaugural lunchtime series at the Lanternhouse where we were thrilled to have our fi rst ever sold out concerts.
The 2013 festival will feature our traditional programme strands of piano-based chamber music and recitals, but don’t miss some more unusual events with a taste of South America in our Tango Cafe concerts, Music from the middle Ages, and a solo guitar concert!
